‘Simbang Gabi’ at the L.A. Cathedral

The Filipino Ministry leaders of San Gabriel Pastoral Region and the Archdiocesan Filipino Ministry Council are extending an invitation to the Filipino community to attend the traditional “Simbang Gabi” at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels with Cardinal Roger Mahony, the regional bishops, and the clergy of the archdiocese.

The traditional holiday event is set to be held on Wednesday evening, December 15, 2010, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, 555 West Temple St., LA, CA 90012. Attire: Preferably Filipiniana.

The Simbang Gabi will be preceded by a Parade of Parols (Lantern Parade) – 6:30 p.m., followed by the Holy Mass at 7 p.m.

“Simbang Gabi,” (night mass) is a Filipino Advent tradition consisting of a novena of masses that will be celebrated by Filipino-Americans in over 100 parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The “me for this year is “Pagkilala sa Presensya ni Hesus, Daan sa Pagkakaisa at Kapayapaan”. (Recognizing the presence of Christ, Way to Unity and Peace.

Families representing parishes, members and leaders of Filipino Catholic organizations are invited to participate at the Parade of Parols. The “Parol” symbolizes “Christ as the light of the world.”
