MANILA – Amid President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for accountability with the police force, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said 1,288 police officers have been dismissed from April 1, 2024 to April 23, 2025.

Citing PNP records, Marbil said that out of 3,611 resolved cases, 1,456 cops were also suspended and 172 were demoted for various offenses.

He reiterated the PNP’s commitment to its zero tolerance policy for rogue police officers.

“We will not allow a few corrupt officers to tarnish the integrity of the entire police force. The PNP is resolutely committed to pursuing justice, and we will not rest until all those responsible for criminal acts within the force are removed,” Marbil said in a statement.

“We want the public to know that the PNP will never give a second chance nor tolerate anyone who tarnishes our uniform. The rule of law will always prevail, and those who violate it will face the consequences.”

He cited the arrest of seven officers for extorting a Chinese businessman during a checkpoint operation in Parañaque City, and the four cops now under custody in Quezon City for mishandling of evidence during an Oplan Galugad.

Marbil said the entire District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) of the Eastern Police District (EPD) and its director were also relieved due to extortion allegations.

“I want to make it clear that these officers made a personal choice to engage in wrongdoing. If they lose their work or face consequences, they are the ones responsible for their actions. The PNP will never shield anyone who betrays their duty and the trust of the people,” he said.

Marbil assured the public that the PNP will continue to strengthen its internal disciplinary mechanisms and ensure that all officers adhere to the law, upholding the values of integrity, accountability, and public service. (PNA)
