MANILA – Twelve Koreans who are supposedly working in a suspected scamming hub were arrested in an operation in Angeles City, Pampanga, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Friday.

The raid on Feb. 25 resulted in the arrest of 33-year-old Korean national Yu Jaemin.

The operation stemmed from intelligence information indicating that the Korean was involved in the operation of a suspected scam hub targeting fellow Korean nationals and possibly other foreign victims.

The other 11 foreigners were discovered working at an office located along Poinsettia Street in Angeles City, where they are stationed at individual work areas and actively manning operational equipment.

The setup, including designated workstations and ongoing digital activities, was consistent with reported scamming operations, according to the BI.

The BI found out that three of the foreign nationals are fugitives with existing derogatory records, while several others were found to be overstaying.

During the operation, another Korean arrived at the premises and claimed to be the lessor or manager of the property.

He reportedly interfered and falsely claimed that he was sent by Korean authorities.

But verification with the Korean government confirmed that no such representation was made. (PNA)
