BUTUAN CITY – Two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with government troops Tuesday morning on the outskirts of the city, a military official said Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Arsenio Sadural, commander of the Army’s 901st Infantry Brigade, said the clash occurred in Sitio Dinakpan, Barangay Los Angeles, between troops of the 29th Infantry Battalion and members of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad Westland (SRSDG-WL).

The 10-minute firefight resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a Bushmaster rifle, ammunition, medical supplies, and other items.

“The SRSDG-WL is securing the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee’s Regional Headquarters,” Sadural said.

The military is trying to identify the slain NPA rebels.

“The rebels are trying to survive and gain support, but residents are becoming tired of them,” Sadural said.

He encouraged people to report information about the NPA’s movements. (PNA)
