MANILA – Two Vietnamese nationals were arrested in Makati City for allegedly practicing medicine without the necessary licenses and permits, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported Wednesday.
In a statement, CIDG Director Nicolas Torre III said the two Vietnamese identified as “Doc Ana” and “Le Thi” were caught performing a lip augmentation procedure without a license from the proper authority at Vera Beauty Clinic located in Makati Tower 2, Yakal Street, Makati City on May 10.
The suspects allegedly posed as medical doctors and conducted aesthetic and medical procedures such as lip fillers and ambulatory surgery, and prescribed medicines despite having no license from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Department of Health (DOH).
“The illegal practice of medicine poses a serious threat to public health and the life of every patient,” Torre said.
Torre said the foreigners will be charged for violating Republic Act 2382, known as the Medical Act of 1959.
He urged the public to report all illegal activities in their localities, saying the CIDG will do its best to prevent crimes and possible serious health problems.
Meanwhile, the CIDG reported the arrest of two persons, including a rapper of the local singing group Breezy Boys, for allegedly selling loose firearms in a buy-bust operation in Malabon City.
Torre said the suspect Rovi, popularly known as Slick One, was arrested with another suspect after they sold a .38 caliber revolver to a police poseur buyer in Barangay Tonsuya on May 9. The other suspect is a sticker signate installer.
He said the two suspects were members of the new gunrunning group operating in the northern part of Metro Manila.
Torre said Rovi utilized his new job as a rider of a delivery and logistics appin his gunrunning activities.
He said the CIDG has intensified its intelligence-gathering following the arrest of Slick One. (PNA)
