MANILA – At least 233 persons facing various offenses were arrested in police operations in Quezon City from Feb. 22 to 28.

Those arrested included 72 drug suspects, 113 wanted persons, 44 suspected gamblers, and four individuals over illegal possession of firearms.

Some PHP1.4 million worth of illegal drugs were seized during the 47 operations conducted during the period, while PHP16,579 in bet money was confiscated from the gambling suspects nabbed in 33 operations.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, in a statement on Monday, said charges have already been filed against some of the suspects before the City Prosecutor’s Office, including violations of Republic Act (RA) 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act) and Presidential Decree 1602 (penalties on illegal gambling).

In the campaign against wanted persons, 38 other wanted persons (OWPs) and 75 most wanted persons (MWPs) were arrested, the QCPD said.

Those arrested for illegal possession of firearms will be facing charges for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

“We will continue to pursue those who threaten the peace in our communities and ensure that they are held accountable,” Silvio said.

“While these operations demonstrate significant progress, our fight against criminality and illegal drugs is ongoing. We call on the citizens of Quezon City to remain vigilant, support our initiatives, and work hand-in-hand with the QCPD to ensure a safer, more secure city for all,” he added.

Meanwhile, the QCPD conferred 8,671 commendations and 80 awards to deserving personnel for their dedication, discipline and outstanding performance in public service in recognition of their exemplary service.

As part of its community policing efforts, the QCPD also conducted 156 community engagement activities across various barangays in Quezon City, reinforcing its commitment in fostering trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility in maintaining peace and order.

The QCPD Damayan Program also extended burial assistance amounting to PHP20,000.00 each to the three personnel, in support of their welfare and that of their families. (PNA)
