MANILA, July 8 (Mabuhay) — The Philippines on Wednesday reported 4,289 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,450,110, as four laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the country’s active cases dropped to 47,519, the lowest since May 26.

Of this, 90.4% are mild, 4.1% are asymptomatic, 2.3% are severe, and 1.6% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, total recoveries also rose to 1,377,132 with 6,399 new ones while 164 fatalities brought the death toll to 25,459.

Eleven duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 61 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 123 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 57% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 45% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 33% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.(MNS)
