LAOAG CITY – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook parts of Northern Luzon on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs traced the quake’s epicenter at 31 km. northwest of Luna, La Union.

The earthquake, which struck at about 10:36 a.m., was tectonic and was about 10 km. deep.

The tremor was felt at Intensity IV in the nearby cities of Candon and Vigan in Ilocos Sur; Intensity II in Sinait and Tagudin in Ilocos Sur; Bangued, Abra; San Fernando and Aringay in La Union; Bani, Infanta, and Bolinao, Pangasinan; and Intensity I in Baguio City.

While expecting damage, Phivolcs advised the public to take extra precautions as aftershocks are expected from the earthquake. (PNA)
