MANILA – Five alleged members of the “salisi” gang were nabbed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced on Wednesday.
The MIAA said the five are just half of the 10 suspects authorities have been following for weeks for their involvement in alleged theft from April 28 to May 5.
The “salisi” members often target sleeping or distracted passengers.
“Their tactic involved one member distracting victims while others stole unattended bags or devices,” the MIAA said in a news release.
Recovered from the suspects were two mobile phones and a laptop.
Cases of theft, resistance and disobedience to persons in authority, and attempted escape were filed against the suspects.
Two of the 10 suspects “managed to escape during a brief chase.”
Meanwhile, the MIAA said Airport Police Department chief, Col. Bing Jose, urged passengers to stay alert, avoid leaving their belongings unattended, and report any suspicious activity to uniformed officers. (PNA)
