MANILA – A two-day police operation resulted in the arrest of five regional most wanted persons (MWPs) and confiscation of over PHP37.6 million worth of illegal drugs, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.

Those arrested during the Feb. 27 and 28 operations included Taguig City’s No. 1 MWP and two of the top five most wanted in Agusan del Sur and Davao City. All three are facing rape charges.

Also arrested were Manila’s No. 7 MWP for two counts of lascivious conduct and Davao City’s No. 8 most wanted for murder.

“We owe it to the victims and their families to ensure that those accused face the court of law,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

Also in the last two days, the PNP confiscated illegal drugs worth PHP37.6 million, including over PHP29 million worth of marijuana in the Cordillera and Ilocos regions.

Separate buy-busts resulted in the confiscation of PHP8.6 million worth of shabu in Iloilo province, Muntinlupa City in Metro Manila and Surigao del Norte. (PNA)
