MANILA, June 21 (Mabuhay) — The Philippines reported 5,803 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the country’s total tally to 1,359,015.

The Department of Health said the new infections brought the number of active cases in the country to 57,679, of which 91.9% were mild, 3.7% were asymptomatic, 1.8% were severe, and 1.3% were in critical condition.

Total recoveries also climbed to 1,277,715 after 7,652 more people defeated the disease.

The death toll, meanwhile, rose to 23,621 with 84 new fatalities.

The DOH said eight duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 115 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH also said two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Data from the DOH showed that 57% of the country’s intensive care unit beds and 36% of the mechanical ventilators were utilized.

In the National Capital Region, 43% of the ICU beds and 32% of the ventilators were in use. (MNS)
