MANILA, May 21 (Mabuhay) —  The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 1,165,155 on Thursday with 6,100 new infections as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the number of active cases in the country slightly rose to 51,912.

Of this, 93.1%  are mild, 2.1% are asymptomatic, 2.0% are severe, and 1.5% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that 4,071 more patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total to 1,093,602, while the death toll climbed to 19,641 with 135 new ones. Sixteen duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 71 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data also showed that 59% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 40% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 59% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 41% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The DOH earlier said that the brand of COVID-19 vaccine to be administered on recipients will still be disclosed right before the jab.

A total of 786,528 individuals have been fully vaccinated against the illness.

Meanwhile, 4 more Filipinos in other countries have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019, bringing the total number of recoveries to 11,396, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.

However, data posted on DFA Twitter indicate one additional COVID-19 infection among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total caseload to 18,634.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 death toll among Filipinos overseas stood at 1,163, with no new fatalities.

Filipinos in the Middle East and Africa reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases. DFA said a total of 10,467 infections were reported among Filipinos in the region, of which,  5,913 recovered while 760 died.

In the Americas, a total of 983 Filipinos were infected. Of the number, 242 died and 627 recovered.

Also, the DFA has recorded a total of 3,394 COVID-19 infections among Filipinos in Europe, including 130 deaths and 2,320 survivors.

In the Asia Pacific Region, COVID-19 cases among Filipinos reached a total of 3,790. Of the total, 2,536 recovered while 31 died.  (MNS)
