MANILA – Eight Filipino weightlifters, led by Zamboanga City’s Angeline Colonia, will compete at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth and Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru on April 30 to May 5, 2025.
Colonia, a gold medalist at the 2024 World Juniors in Spain and a silver medalist at the 2023 Cambodia Southeast Asian Games, will vie in the junior women’s 45kg division.
Joining her from Zamboanga City are Alexsandra Ann Diaz (youth women’s 40kg), Rosalinda Faustino (junior women’s 49kg), Jhodie Peralta (youth/junior women’s 55kg), Jay-R Colonia (youth men’s 49kg), and Albert Ian Delos Santos (junior men’s 67kg).
Also part of the Philippine squad are Cebu City’s Althea Bacaro (youth women’s 40kg) and Angono, Rizal’s Prince Keil Delos Santos (junior men’s 55kg).
Coaches Antonio Agustin, Gregorio Colonia, Diwa Delos Santos, all from Zamboanga City, and Christopher Bureros of Cebu City will accompany the team.
Most of the athletes competing in Peru were medalists at the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Championships in Qatar, including Peralta (two golds, one silver) and Prince Delos Santos (three silvers in Youth; three bronzes in Junior).
The Youth division is for athletes aged 13 to 17, while the Junior division is for competitors aged 15 to 20. (PNA)
