MANILA (Mabuhay) – Department of Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima said on Monday the accused in the mauling of television host-actor Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro cannot leave the country even if they have already posted bail.

According to De Lima, based on the Rules of Court, the accused who are facing trial in court are required to ask for permission from the court before they can leave the country.

De Lima said that Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo and Zimmer Raz will only be allowed to leave the country if their departure is “valid and with urgent reason.”

The DOJ chief warned that if the three accused would insist in fleeing the country without permission from the court, it could be a basis for the revocation of their bail.

Lee, Cornejo and Raz earlier posted a Php 500,000 bail each before the Taguig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) for the case of serious illegal detention in connection with the mauling of Navarro last Jan. 17.

Likewise, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) remains on alert if ever the three accused would attempt to leave the country because they are also covered by an Immigration Lookout bulletin. (MNS)
