MANILA – Adamson University demolished University of the East, 3-0, Thursday night for its first win in the UAAP Season 88 men’s football tournament at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite.
Cameroonian striker Golike Dany Doko delivered in the ninth minute, Carl Mahinay added one goal in the 41st minute, while Roberto Roldan completed the win when he scored in the 74th minute.
UE rallied behind Karl Festin and Jerome Abarca in the second half, but they failed to convert.
Goalkeeper Shane Salarda had his first clean sheet of the season for Adamson, which bounced back from its 6-3 loss to defending champion Far Eastern University last Sept. 30.
“Credits to them; you see the way they played, the energy they gave. They came out to win,” said Adamson head coach Dalton Digha.
“It’s not about me, it’s about them. I’m proud of them and I think they played their best game this season,” he added.
The Red Warriors played minus head coach Frank Muescan and defenders Mark Maghinay and Christian Tio, who were suspended for their involvement in last Sunday’s late-match incident against Ateneo de Manila University that led to a three-point deduction.
Meanwhile, Adamson will meet the University of the Philippines at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday at the UP Football Stadium. UE and Far Eastern University will square off at 4 p.m. (PNA)
