MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday assured an airtight case against the two suspects behind the fatal shooting of a cop in Guiguinto, Bulacan.
Police M/Sgt. Jose Uring, 50, a member of the Bulacan Provincial Intelligence Unit, was fatally shot in Barangay Panginay on Sunday during a meeting of the Brooklyn Heights Homeowners Association, where he was president.
A 54-year-old civilian was also injured in the attack.
Authorities on Monday arrested two suspects – a dismissed police officer formerly assigned with the Obando Police Station and his cohort — during a coordinated hot pursuit operation in Bulakan and Obando towns.
The PNP said investigators have already gathered evidence, interviewed witnesses and prepared murder and frustrated homicide charges against the suspects.
“I commend our police teams for their swift action and professionalism. We will ensure that the case is pursued diligently in court. Hindi lang mabilis ang aksyon kundi matibay din ang ebidensya laban sa mga suspek (Not just fast action but strong evidence against the suspects),” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.
The PNP leadership also pledged continuous coordination with the family of the victim to facilitate benefits and other support.
Meanwhile, Nartatez reminded all personnel, particularly police frontliners, to observe respect and uphold professionalism in dealing with the public, especially those seeking assistance.
He warned of consequences if any personnel are found to be rude and mishandling any call for assistance, whether it be in police stations and offices, or on the streets.
“The PNP has no room for grumpy and arrogant personnel. As government workers, efficient public service anchored on professionalism and respect is a daily requirement,” he said in a separate statement. (PNA)
