LAS VEGAS – “All systems go for the much-awaited Gawad Kalinga Hope Ball and the Celebrity Golf Classic Tournament in Las Vegas this Saturday, April 30, 2011 as excitement builds over the week-end,” says Luz Micabalo, GK-Hope Ball co-chair in Las Vegas, in coordination with GK-USA. Her husband, Dr. Mike Micabalo chairs the Celebrity Golf Classic Tournament.

The GK Hope Ball, the first in the United States, “will bring together the diverse sectors in the Filipino community in the USA and create something more important than history: HOPE,” explains Micabalo.

“Also, it will provide an avenue for Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in the United States to build a flagship village in Bagong Silang, Cavite City, Metro Manila in the Philippines,” adds Micabalo.

The GK-Hope Ball will be held at the Grand Ballroom of Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino on The Strip with no less than Philippines Vice President Jejomar Binay leading a coterie of VIPs and well-known celebrities and mainstream entertainers.

Joining VP Binay are Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida, GK founder Tony Meloto, GK-USA National Head and co-chair of the event Jun Olaes, entertainment celebrities Ryan Cayabyab, Maria Montelibano (in-charge of Production), Taboo of Black Eyed Peas, Stephanie Reese, Jasmine Velasquez and the Las Vegas Band Redo, among others.

The Celebrity Golf Classic, with its 6:00 a.m. shotgun opening will be held at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Sun Cit-Summerlin. Awarding of trophies will be during lunch at the Desert Vista Community Center, also at Sun City-Summerlin.

“All proceeds from both events will go to the construction of 150 GK houses in Bagong Silang, Cavite, Metro Manila. Event sponsors and donors will have the opportunity to speak to the beneficiaries over SKYPE during the turn-over ceremonies in 2012,” shares Micabalo. (Zen S. Laluna)
