MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday lauded Angkas chief executive officer (CEO) George Royeca for taking responsibility and complying with its investigation into a road-blocking incident involving a motorcade of the ride-hailing firm’s riders in Cainta, Rizal.

In a statement, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said a show cause order (SCO) was issued to Royeca after the latter took full responsibility for the incident.

The first hearing was held on Monday at the LTO Central Office where Royeca was asked to submit documents and explain the incident.

“This is the first of its kind, it’s a good example for everybody. He has to take the lead and show us an example to follow especially since he has so many followers [on social media],” Mendoza said.

“I hope other leaders would follow the same path and be more responsible in the exercise of leadership to avoid accidents and for road safety,” he said.

During the hearing, Royeca apologized for the incident and vowed to take steps to prevent it from happening again.

“We have always been focused on advocating safety and siyempre (of course) our entire platform advocacy of really espouse following road rules. And no one is above the law including myself,” Royeca said.

Those involved in the incident are being investigated for ‘Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle’ under Section 27 of Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code).

Mendoza said the case is expected to be resolved ‘in the soonest possible time’ following the cooperation of Royeca.

On Feb. 2, a group of Angkas riders was seen blocking an intersection in Cainta to let their motorcade pass despite a red light.

The incident was caught in a dashcam video that went viral on social media.

The motorcade was headed to the ‘Unity Ride’ at the Marilaque Highway which seeks to promote safety for all motorists traversing the road. (PNA)
