APL.DE.AP may not be the most popular nor the most musically gifted among the Filipino-Americans in the U.S but he is no doubt among the most active in working for the good of compatriots here and in the homeland. Not only that he has keep his heart in the right places, the musician’s own inspirational rags-to-riches story – like the songs made famous by the Black Eyed Peas – continue to resonate in the airwaves and please the ears of those who seek inspiration. Apl.de.ap’s own story is by itself a song worth listening to.

The Hollywood Bowl management certainly did not err when it picked Apl.de.ap to headline an all-Filipino concert at the legendary arena.  In a recent press conference at the stadium’s Rooftop Grill, Apl.de.ap said he was honored to top bill the show that would showcase Filipino music and culture. He said he was excited when the stadium’s management communicated with his party and brought out the idea of doing a first-ever all-Filipino Hollywood Bowl celebration. He explained that each year, Hollywood Bowl picks a particular community in Los Angeles to generate a show.

Billed as “Apl.de.ap takes you to the Philippines,” the show promises not only to showcase Filipino music and culture to the Los Angeles community but also to promote them as “global phenomena.”

Expectedly, Will.I.Am and Taboo, members of the Black Eyed Peas, would be performing with Apl.de.ap.  The organizers of the show said it is going to be a “one-of-a-kind music and dance party.”

It is a unique experience indeed to sit back and let the music take you on a back and forth voyage, not only to the homeland and here, but as well as to the past and present. Traditional music and “harana” songs are to be presented by an array of artists and performers that include Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, The Harana Kings with Florante Aguilar, Legaci, Jeremy Passion, Tateng Katindig and the Rondalla Club of Los Angeles.

Also performing are Nicole Scherzinger, Sandwich, Culture Shock, Bucky Johnson, Dessa, DJ E-Man and DJ Poet. These performers are expected to take the audience to a journey to the different musical genres, namely R&B, soul, pop and jazz.

The show will be hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, Lou Diamond Philipps and comedian Jo Koy.

Apl.de.ap (aka Allan Pienda Lindo Jr.) was from a poor family in Pampanga. He has six siblings and their mother raised them up all by herself.  He came to the U.S at the age of 11 for medical treatment and was later adopted by his sponsor. He attended high school here where he met William Adams, known today as Will.I.Am.
