MANILA, May 1 (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III pledged on Labor Day to listen to and build stronger ties with the labor sector.

In his Labor Day message, Aquino said his administration is exerting efforts to respond to the needs of the workforce.

In particular, the President particularly said the government is making sure that all Filipinos are equipped to pursue jobs that will help them succeed.

He also said there are “more opportunities” now in the country, boasting once again of the improving economy.

At the same time, President Aquino called on stakeholders to help the government create a “fair market” that will help improve the lives of Filipinos.

Some 9 million Filipinos, however, remain jobless in the country, a Social Weather Stations Survey revealed earlier this week.

The same poll nevertheless showed that unemployment rate dropped in the country from 27 percent last December to 19.1 percent last March.(MNS)
