NEW YORK (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III continued to reject calls from the Marcos family to allow President Ferdinand Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
“Wala sa kakayahan ko ipaliwanag sa taong bayan kung bakit siya dapat ilibing sa Libingan ng mga Bayani,” he said.
This September 28 will be the 25th death anniversary of Marcos, who died in Hawaii and whose remains are in a glass crypt in the Marcos mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte.
Aquino cited doubts on Marcos’ war exploits as well as the history of his strongman rule.
He said a hero’s burial would be unjustifiable.
Meanwhile, around 20 members of the Gabriela Women’s group staged a protest rally at the Columbia University, where President Aquino was attending the World Leaders Forum.
Some of the activists even managed to get inside the venue. In the middle of the question and answer session, they even lectured Aquino on various issues, including term extension and the Hacienda Luisita.
Aquino just shrugged off the heckling, saying he was used to protesters making a scene in the guise of asking questions. (MNS)
