MANILA (Mabuhay) – While the individual support of Liberal Party members is crucial to the presidential candidacy of former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, President Benigno Aquino III admitted that the administration party “cannot please everybody.”

Aquino said this amid rumors that some LP members are secretly supporting Senator Grace Poe’s 2016 presidential bid.

“You cannot please everybody. The value of the individual is so important to the Liberal. Again, we don’t impose, shall we say, decisions unless the party takes a stand,” the President said in an interview with ANC’s Tina Monzon Palma Tuesday night.

“When everybody says that we are with you, we can count that as is and where is. That is the complete statement,” Aquino added.

Also on Tuesday, Rep. Edgar Erice, LP chairman for political affairs, denied rumors that there are party members who are secretly supporting Poe.

“Walang ganun. Kung noon nakalusot ang ganun, Hindi na mangyayari ngayon,” Erice said during a press conference.

Last week, several LP members were reported to have jumped ship to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), the second biggest political party next to the LP.

Some NPC members have said that they are likely to support the tandem of Senators Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who both decided to run as independent candidates. The party, however, has yet to make its official stand.

Meanwhile in the same television interview, Aquino said the LP is not “desperately searching for new supporters,” at least in the local level.

“There are those who were never with us who have experienced what good governance is and want the perpetuation and the continuation of the same,” he said. (MNS)
