MANILA, Feb 27 (Mabuhay) — Malacañang on Wednesday stressed that President Benigno Aquino III is closely studying the Atimonan shootout report submitted by the National Bureau of Investigation 20 days ago.

“Si Presidente po is going through the report personally. Like I said, makapal po yun. Pinag-aaralan niya. Si Presidente po is a very detailed person,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a briefing.

The January 6 encounter in Atimonan, Quezon, which left 13 people dead, has been called a shootout, but initial reports have cast doubts on the veracity of the term, since most of the 13 victims were shot in the head.

However, Lacierda reiterated that there will be no whitewash in the report, saying that Aquino is merely being thorough.

“Masasabi ko sa’yo na walang nililinis. Pinag-aaralan lang po talaga ni Pangulo ng masusi ang report. Everything is transparent. Doon sa nangyari noon inayos na. We are very transparent,” Lacierda said, adding the actions on the recommendations enclosed in the report will be released at the appropriate time.

“What we are saying right now, the President is going through the report in a very detailed manner. So, we can assure you na at the proper time we will let you know,” he said. (MNS)
