MANILA – Attempted homicide charges have been filed by prosecutors against NorthPort Batang Pier guard John Walker Amores before the Lumban, Laguna court over a shootout arising from an alleged bet in a barangay basketball game.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) rookie posted bail of PHP24,00 and PHP10,000 for his brother Red Amores to secure their release.

The two were named in the information signed by Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Maria Cayaba dated Sept. 26 and obtained by the media on Friday.

Reports said the two surrendered to authorities after security video footage showed them firing a handgun at Lee Cacalda along the Manila East Road after a game in Lumban town in Laguna province. No one was hurt in the incident which police said stemmed from an argument over a P4,000 bet in a pick-up game.

In 2022, Amores then a collegiate player was banned after trading blows with four players from an opposing team. (with a report from Ivan Saldajeno/PNA)
