MANILA – Elizabeth Bayla of Baguio City bagged the gold medal in the women’s compound Open division of the 8th Philippine National Para Games at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila on Wednesday.
The 56-year-old Bayla beat seasoned archer Agustina Bantiloc, 132-131, in the 15-arrow Olympic round.
“It was a close fight. Anyone can win,” commented Bayla in Filipino. She won the recurve event in 2019.
Bantiloc dominated the 72-arrow elimination phase with 639 points, with 19 shots hitting the bullseye.
Bayla, on the other hand, made 25 perfect shots to finish with 637 points.
“With my score, I’m qualified to join international competitions,’’ said Bayla, who is seeking to compete in the next Asean Para Games and the 2026 Asian Para Games in Nagoya, Japan.
But her main goal is to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
“Of course, everyone dreams to go to the Paralympics,” said Bayla, who has an amputated left leg. (PNA)
