CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A police officer in Bataan has drawn praise for his quick response and compassion after helping a woman safely deliver a baby during an emergency rescue in Orani town on Wednesday.

In a report Thursday, Bataan Provincial Police chief Col. Marites Salvadora said the Orani Municipal Police Station received a 911 call about a woman in urgent need of assistance at Sitio Alikabok, Barangay Bayan. Responding officers aboard Mobile 1, led by Police M/Sgt. Ronald Imperial, rushed to the scene, where they found a 30-year-old pregnant woman with a mental disability already in labor under a tree.

Imperial, a former registered nurse before joining the Philippine National Police (PNP), immediately applied his medical training to assist the mother. He safely facilitated the childbirth, carefully cut the umbilical cord, and ensured the well-being of both the newborn baby girl and her mother, according to Salvadora.

Residents who witnessed the rescue commended the police officers, noting that their readiness to act extended beyond law enforcement duties to life-saving interventions.

Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3) chief, Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr., said Imperial’s action “is an example of true public service. Our police must always be ready to respond with care and compassion, because our mission goes beyond law enforcement—it is about saving lives.”

He added that such acts embody the 7 Focus Agenda of Acting PNP Chief, Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio I. Nartatez Jr., particularly in strengthening community trust and improving police services.

Both the mother and baby were later brought to a nearby health facility for further care. (PNA)
