MANILA (Mabuhay) — Makati Mayor Erwin “Junjun” Binay on Wednesday floated the possibility of a coalition between the United Nationalist Alliance and the Liberal Party, with his father, Vice-President Jejomar Binay, as the standard-bearer for both parties in the 2016 polls.

Binay said an UNA-LP Coalition is in the realm of possibility in politics. “It might be good for the country to have an alliance,” he said.

Asked about the possibility that some LP members loyal to Secretary Mar Roxas will shoot down the idea, he said: “For the sake of this country, bawasan na natin yung pulitika.”

Roxas has been touted as the possible LP presidential bet for the 2016 polls.

The Makati Mayor also floated several names as possible running-mates of his father including Senator Francis Escudero and Senator Grace Poe.

One new name that cropped up in the interview is Atty. Darlene Marie Berberabe, president and CEO of the Pag-IBIG Fund.

“Lelen Berberabe might be a good VP. We have seen her talk about issues with Pag-IBIG. She is smart, has credibility and experience. She has the heart for public service,” the mayor said.

The younger Binay noted Berberabe turned down a job abroad so that she could serve as head of the Pag-IBIG Fund.

He said he does not know if his father has talked to Berberabe, noting that the Pag-IBIG Fund head is going through a lot right now.

“She is going through a lot right now. She has to take care of Samboy Lim, Pag-IBIG and she has a daughter…She is firm and she knows what she is talking about.”

The vice-president’s son said his father has long made his known his desire to have a running-mate from the business sector. Binay earlier said he wanted businessman Manny Pangilinan as a running-mate but the latter said he was not interested. (MNS)
