MANILA, May 31 (Mabuhay) — Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Monday said it would be better for the economy, hit badly by the COVID-19 pandemic, if NCR Plus will be placed under the less restrictive modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) in June.
“Mas maganda nga kung maging MGCQ na para lumago ang negosyo. Gagalaw ang ekonomiya. Kapag nangyari ‘yan, gaganda rin ang employment kaya ‘yan ang hinihintay namin,” Bello said.
NCR Plus, currently on general community quarantine (GCQ) “with heightened restrictions,” covers Metro Manila and the adjacent provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal and Laguna.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), the government’s policy-making in COVID-19 response, is set to meet on Monday to discuss NCR Plus’ quarantine classification for June.
On Saturday, however, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said MGCQ is not one of the options for the areas currently under GCQ.
“Well, hindi puwedeng mag-MGCQ. So pag-uusapan pa ‘yan sa Lunes ‘yung final recommendation bago i-rekomenda sa Talk to the People program ‘yung quarantine classification,” Duque said.
President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to announce on Monday night the results of the IATF meeting. (MNS)
