LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO 5) has arrested 26 individuals and confiscated PHP1.36 million worth of illegal drugs in a week-long operation.
In a report released on Monday, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said 23 anti-drug operations were conducted from Feb. 24 to March 2, leading to the seizure of 200.90 grams of shabu.
Among the provinces, Camarines Norte recorded the largest drug haul with PHP979,268; followed by Albay with PHP118,592; Masbate with PHP106,080; Sorsogon with PHP82,620; Naga City with PHP74,800, and Camarines Sur with PHP4,760; while Catanduanes reported no drug seizures.
Dizon said he recognizes that the fight against illegal drugs extends beyond arrests and seizures.
“The unit has been actively intensifying educational and awareness campaigns to inform the public –especially the youth— about the dangers of drug use and involvement in illegal activities,” he said.
The programs include community outreach initiatives, school-based forums, and partnerships with local government units, non-government organizations, and various stakeholders to ensure that anti-drug messages reach all sectors of society.
The PRO-5 urged the public to stay vigilant and actively participate in the campaign against illegal drugs by reporting suspicious activities and supporting rehabilitation programs for drug dependents.
“The collaboration between the police and the community is crucial in sustaining long-term success in the fight against illegal drugs,” he said.
Dizon said the PRO-5 remains committed to creating a safer and drug-free environment across the Bicol Region.
He added that through rigorous law enforcement, public education, and strong community engagement, the police force aims to ensure lasting peace and order for the welfare of all residents. (with a report from Valerie Mae Olaño, OJT/PNA)
