LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) reported on Monday the arrest of 21 individuals and the seizure of over PHP1.4 million worth of illegal drugs during a week-long series of operations conducted from May 26 to June 1.

In an interview, PRO-5 spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib said 19 anti-illegal drug operations carried out resulted in the confiscation of 213.1630 grams of suspected shabu and three grams of marijuana, collectively valued at PHP1.44 million.

“In terms of improvements, there has been a continuous decline compared to previous operations,” Calubaquib said.

She also clarified that, as for the quantity of illegal drugs confiscated each week, it depends on the actual presence and availability of illegal drugs during the operations.

“The confiscations make a significant contribution to the overall decline in criminality within the region,” she said.

Camarines Norte recorded the highest seizure amounting to PHP798,972.40; followed by Albay with PHP499,120; Naga City with PHP99,280; while Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon recorded PHP34,000, PHP14,756, and PHP3,740, respectively.

Calubaquib added that suspects were apprehended through a mix of buy-bust operations, service of search warrants, and intelligence-driven police work.

She said all arrested individuals are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a statement, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon lauded the efforts of the operating units and emphasized that the campaign against illegal drugs remains a top priority in the region.

“This sustained campaign against illegal drugs is a reflection of our strong resolve to safeguard the communities of Bicol. We remain firm in our mission and call on the public to work with us in making our region drug-free,” he said. (PNA)
