MANILA (Mabuhay) – The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday blamed former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado for the lack of electricity and water in a P1.2-billion relocation site in Laguna bought by the Makati city government under Binay’s leadership.

In an interview after a Senate inquiry where the relocation project was questioned, Binay’s spokesman JV Bautista said Mercado’s firm, Twinleaf Construction, was responsible for providing amenities for the controversial Makati Homeville project.

Mercado, Binay’s former ally, has also earlier accused the vice president of involvement in various anomalies during his stint as Makati mayor.

Earlier in the day, lawyer Renato Bondal claimed that the Makati government under Binay’s leadership spent P120 million to buy land, and another P900 million on a relocation site in Calauan town which does not have decent houses and basic amenities until now.

Bautista further said that Binay cannot be held responsible for every small detail of projects during his term as Makati mayor.

It doesn’t work that way,” Bautista said.

He further said that Binay’s clan will not be elected in Makati if they repress their constituents.

Bautista said.
