MANILA – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan said Monday his administration in the agency supports the investigation being conducted against a Batangas official for alleged bribery.
In a television interview, he said if the DPWH official is proven to have committed the illegal act, he must face the appropriate punishment.
The department is set to issue on Tuesday the preventive suspension order against DPWH Batangas 1st District Engineer Abelardo Calalo, who allegedly attempted to bribe Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Legarda Leviste.
Bonoan assured that the DPWH administration will not tolerate this type of corruption by any district engineer.
Calalo is currently in the custody of the Taal Municipal Police Station.
Bonoan said the DPWH leadership firmly believes that those who would be found to have engaged in any wrongdoing must face the full consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.
“As public servants, we at the Department of Public Works and Highways do not condone any form of misconduct,” he added. (PNA)
