MANILA – The Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) on Monday said 76 members of the elite Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP- SAF) have been deployed to strengthen security at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro.
In a news release, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. said the move comes in response to ongoing efforts to bolster safety protocols and ensure effective management within the facility.
Catapang instructed Deputy Director General for Operations Gil Torralba to oversee the arrival of the SAF personnel earlier Monday.
“The integration of these highly trained officers aims to further enhance the prison’s security measures, particularly following directives from Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla regarding the transfer of inmates with drug-related convictions to SPPF,” he said.
According to the BuCor, Torralba led a combined operation known as Task Force Sanib-Pwersa within Camp Pasungi inside the SPPF Monday.
The task force included members from the BuCor, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the PNP-SAF.
Torralba reported to Catapang that “the operation was executed effectively” and resulted in the seizure of nine assorted cellular phones, tobacco products including one ream and two packs of cigarettes, several cellular phone chargers, and 16 assorted bladed weapons. (PNA)
