MANILA – Top seed Marian Capadocia downed Elsie Abarquez, 6-1, 6-2, Thursday to reach the women’s singles semifinals in the 41st Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open at the PCA indoor shell court in Paco, Manila.
Capadocia, seeking her eighth title, will meet Kay Anne Emana, who ousted third seed Tiffany Claire Nocos, 6-1, 7-6 (1), in the other quarterfinal match.
Khim Iglupas pulled off a 6-2, 6-3 win over Justin Hannah Maneja to advance against Mikaela Vicencio, a 7-5, 7-5 winner over Joana Victoria Peña.
In the women’s doubles category, Bambi Zoleta and Aileen Rogan marched to the semifinals after beating Jufe-Ann Cocoy and Joshea Malazarte, 7-5, 6-3.
Zoleta and Rogan will face Dana Abad and Tao Faye Tan, who prevailed over Bea Gomez and Amor Idjao, 6-2, 7-5.
In the mixed doubles category, Joseph Arcilla and Princess Catindig rallied past Lance Fernandez and Annika Diwa, 6-2, 4-6 (10-4), to forge a quarterfinal showdown with Noel Damian and Alexa Milliam, who conquered Loucas Fernandez and Rachel Velez, 6-0, 6-2.
Also moving to the next round were Rolly Saga and Joanna Tan, Jude Michael Padao and Rovie Baulate, Ronard Joven and Elsie Abarquez, Ernest Sonsona and Nicole Dela Rita, and Brsyl Libao and Amor Idjao. (PNA)
