BUTUAN CITY – Police arrested four New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents from Jan. 1 to 19.

“The PRO-13 [Police Regional Office in Caraga] remains steadfast in its aggressive campaign against communist rebels as we gear up for the upcoming 2025 national and local elections,” PRO-13 Director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said in a statement Tuesday.

The arrested rebels include a squad leader and three regular members, all of whom are wanted for the crimes of murder, frustrated murder and arson.

Among those arrested was “Seren,” 36, a squad leader of the dismantled NPA Guerrilla Front (GF) 88 under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).

Seren, of San Luis, Agusan del Sur, has standing arrest warrants for murder issued on Nov. 19, 2020 by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 in Bayugan City.

Another rebel nabbed was “Cheryl,” 28, a member of the NPA GF-30 of NCMRC and a resident of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

Cheryl is wanted for eight counts of murder, two for arson, three for attempted murder, and two for frustrated murder, with arrest warrants issued by the RTC Branch 41 in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.

Two other NPA guerrillas, Makoy, 23, of the Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda 16B, of the dismantled GF-16 under the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC); and “Babu,” 45, of Platoon 7 of GF-19A, NEMRC, were also arrested.

Makoy is wanted for two counts of murder and attempted murder, with warrants from RTC Branch 32 in Surigao City, while Babu faces warrants for two counts of murder, two counts of frustrated murder, and three counts of attempted murder. (PNA)
