The City of Carson and the Carson Cultural Arts Foundation will be presenting non-stop entertainment and fun activities for the entire family as it hosts the 2014 Juneteenth Rhythm and Blues Celebration on June 14.
The festivities will take place from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Mills Park, located at 1340 E. Dimondale Drive in Carson.
The event is open to the public and admission is Headlining this year’s event is American R&B and gospel singer Howard Hewett.
He was the former lead vocalist of the R&B group Shalamar. Hewett will be joined by other R&B artists, as well as a variety of musical talents.
Aside from non-stop entertainment, Juneteenth also features various stage activities, carnival games for kids, and a variety of arts and crafts, food and display booths.
Juneteenth marks the date in history when African-American slaves in Texas first received word that all slaves were free. The news came to Texas in June 1865, two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
