Chiz welcomes Robredo’s entry into VP race

MANILA, Oct 5 (Mabuhay) – Senator Francis Escudero on Monday welcomed the entry of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo into the vice presidential race in 2016.

“Rep. Leni Robredo is qualified and has every right to offer herself for higher office,” Escudero said in a press statement.

He said he wishes Robredo well and he looks forward to “exchanging views and platforms that will serve the best interests of our country and people with her and the others who have expressed their intention to run for higher office.”

Escudero is the running mate of Senator Grace Poe.

Escudero and Robredo hail from the Bicol.

Over the weekend, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV also expressed his intention to run for vice president in next year’s elections.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano announced his vice presidential run in Davao City last week.

Amopng the four hopefuls, Escudero led the latest vice presidential prefernce surveys released by Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations (SWS).

In Pulse Asia’s vice presidential survey, Escudero got 23 percent. He was statistically tied with Poe, who got 24 percent.

Poe has declared her intention to run for president in 2016.

Cayetano placed 4th in the survey with nine percent. He followed Sen. Bongbong Marcos, who has yet to confirm if he is running fo president or vice president.

Trillanes and Robredo, meanwhile, got 4 percent and 3 percent, respectively.

The SWS survey was also led by Poe followed by Escudero with 20 percent. Cayetano had 5 percent, Trillanes with four percent and Robredo with three percent.(MNS)
