MANILA – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of a barangay (village) chairman and his wife in Cebu in March 2023.
In a statement on Wednesday, CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the suspect identified as Kapoy, a resident of Barangay Tubod, Asturias, Cebu, was arrested at Zuelex Street, Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City at around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Kapoy is tagged as the No. 7 most wanted person in Central Visayas for being the primary suspect in the killing of Mario Delfin Tundag, chairperson of Barangay Manguiao, Asturias, Cebu, and his wife, Edna.
On Sept. 20, 2023, Toledo City Regional Trial Court Branch 29 presiding Judge Ruben Fermin Altubar issued the warrant of arrest against Kapoy who is facing a double murder case.
The shooting incident happened on March 14, 2023 along the national highway of Poblacion Asturias, Cebu. It gained significant public attention and media mileage.
The Special Investigation Task Group – SITG TUNDAG with the CIDG Cebu Field Unit as the lead investigating unit was activated and conducted an in-depth investigation which resulted in the identification of the suspect, eventual filing of a criminal case and his arrest. (PNA)
