Contact tracers must have ‘investigative mindset,’ Magalong says

MANILA, (Mabuhay) — Tracing czar and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Monday said contact tracers needed at this time of COVID-19 pandemic should have an “investigative mindset.”

At a press briefing, Magalong said contact tracers, especially those conducting interviews among patients, are composed of medical personnel and police investigators.

“Ang isa sa mga qualifications po natin and we’re talking of the interviewers, this will be composed of PNP investigators, health workers.

Magalong said those with knowledge on technical support like IT graduates are also needed in strengthening the efforts of contact tracing in the country.

Baguio City was earlier hailed as a model local government unit for managing to keep its COVID-19 cases low.

Last week, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said it is eyeing to have at least 100,000 contact tracers by the end of July.

The agency said it is waiting for the directive of the Department of Budget and Management as to when they could start hiring more contact tracers. Those who will be prioritized are graduates of criminology or medical courses. (MNS)
