MANILA – Defending champion Creamline tries to keep its immaculate record when it battles Cignal at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
The Cool Smashers defeated the Nxled Chameleons, 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 on Jan. 28 to claim their sixth straight victory.
“Of course, this win is a big help for us because we now have six consecutive wins, and our confidence is always there. But as (Bernadeth) Pons said, we should never be complacent in every game and every point,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses in Filipino.
“We know they (HD Spikers) will fight hard, and they also have young players,” he added.
After Cignal, Creamline’s last remaining assignments in the preliminary round are Chery Tiggo, Farm Fresh, PLDT, and Galeries Tower.
With the departures of skipper Ces Molina and middle blocker Riri Meneses, Cignal had to lean on Vanie Gandler, Rose Doria-Aquino, Jackie Acuña, Judith Abil, Ishie Lalongisip, setter Gel Cayuna and libero Dawn Catindig.
The HD Spikers, who bowed to the PLDT High Speed Hitters, 20-25, 21-125, 25-20, 22-25, last Saturday, are in third place with five wins against two losses.
Meanwhile, Akari and Capital1 square off at 4 p.m.
The Chargers downed the Nxled Chameleons, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-18, last Jan. 23 to improve at 4-4 while the Solar Spikers are hoping to rebound from their 31-29, 25-15, 25-15 setback to the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles to notch their second win. (PNA)
