TACLOBAN CITY – The police arrested two wanted members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Northern Samar and facilitated the surrender of another.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here reported on Tuesday that authorities apprehended on Monday alias “Ever,” a 29-year-old farmer and regular NPA member from Lapinig, Northern Samar.
Wanted for frustrated murder, Ever was arrested in Barangay Libertad in Gamay town.
Also on Monday, 20-year-old alias “Gimoy” of Pambujan town surrendered.
On Sunday, the police also captured in Barangay Cababto-an, Pambujan town alias “Otik,” a 50-year-old farmer and NPA member from the same town.
He is wanted for multiple murder, frustrated murder and attempted murder charges.
The arrests were conducted by the 2nd Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company (NSPMFC), Police Provincial Intelligence Unit, 801st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and local police stations.
The arrested NPA members are now under the custody of NSPMFC.
“The successful arrests and voluntary surrender in Northern Samar highlight our steadfast commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region. Our relentless pursuit of justice, along with our strong partnerships with local communities and agencies, are crucial in upholding the rule of law and safeguarding public safety,” PNP Eastern Visayas Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad said in a statement.
The arrest and surrender are expected to further weaken the armed struggle in Northern Samar province, considered the country’s last bastion of insurgency. (PNA)
