COTABATO CITY – Two churchgoers were injured when a suspected fragmentation grenade exploded inside a Catholic chapel here on Sunday morning.

The attack happened about 10:30 a.m. inside the Sto. Nino Chapel in Barangay Rosary Heights 3.

A “tanod” (watchman) saw two men on a motorcycle toss the grenade before speeding away, according to village chairperson Kagui Omar Pasawilan.

Mayor Bruce Matabalao said the city government would reward anyone who could provide information about the perpetrators.

“Let’s all fight violence and terrorism. The attack is an outright disrespect to the Roman Catholic Church and its believers,” Matabalao said in a statement.

Pasawilan identified the injured residents as Maribel Abis, 46, and Aniceta Tobil, a senior citizen. (PNA)
