MANILA – A Batangas court has found two men apprehended in Lipa City 10 years ago guilty of kidnapping businessman Teoderico Ozaeta, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Wednesday.
In a statement, the NBI said the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 13 of Lipa City found Francisco Quiamco and Rammel Relos guilty beyond reasonable doubt of kidnapping for ransom and sentenced both men to 40 years imprisonment without eligibility for parole.
The suspects abducted the businessman on July 24, 2015, in Batangas City and demanded a PHP30-million ransom.
The NBI–National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) closely monitored communications between the kidnappers and the family. Surveillance agents were able to pinpoint the location of both the victim and the abductors in Mangatarem, Pangasinan.
On July 30, 2015, NBI-NCR agents proceeded to a pharmacy where the victim was expected to buy medicine.
They eventually rescued the victim and arrested the two suspects. (PNA)
