MANILA, Aug 28 (Mabuhay) — Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has chosen not to show up at the Department of Justice main office in Manila on Friday after members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo remained massed up along Padre Faura Street.

This was confirmed by Justice Undersecretary Jose Justiniano, as well as security guards inside the DOJ compound.

“Wala sa DOJ si Secretary. Nasa labas siya may ina-attendang meeting. And we do not know if she would still be returning to the DOJ later,” said Justianiano.

Justiniano said operations inside the DOJ have so far not been disrupted, but quoted DOJ employees as describing the situation as “not normal.”

“Wala namang nabago pero iyon nga lang ngayon may restrictions na sa pagpasok at paglabas ng DOJ,” said the undersecretary.

Unlike before, reporters have now been barred from going to the second level of the DOJ main office where De Lima’s office is located.

At least 3,000 Iglesia ni Cristo members have joined the vigil that started Thursday.

The Iglesia ni Cristo members have accused De Lima of meddling with the internal affairs of the religious group for ordering an investigation into the alleged abductions of its members. (MNS)
