MANILA (Mabuhay) — Comedian Dennis Padilla has decided not to file a motion to intervene against the petition of her daughter, actress Julia Barretto, to drop his surname.
During a hearing held at the Branch 226 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, the 53-year-old Padilla said he is giving his daughter the freedom to choose the family name she wants to use.
He also said that he has not heard from Barretto ever since the two were reunited at the latter’s debut party last March. This, despite the actress posting a photo of her with Padilla in celebration of Father’s Day.
“Nagti-text ako and everything, wala namang reply. Pagod na ako. Sabi nga ng mama ko kagabi, ‘Dennis, i-withdraw mo na lang kasi nakakapagod na. Kasi kung ayaw ni Julia ng apelyido mo, huwag mo nang ipagpilitan. Kasi ayaw niya,” he said.
Last April, Barretto, whose real name is Julia Frances Baldivia (Padilla’s real surname), said she would no longer drop Baldivia from her surname.
However, Padilla belied this, saying Julia has yet to withdraw the petition, which was reportedly filed when the actress was only 16.
“Kunwari nanalo ako, ano ba ang kaibahan? Wala din. Pareho lang din naman. Hindi ko naman sila nakakasama, hindi ko naman nakakausap,” he added.
Padilla also believes that this is Barretto’s sole decision, and is no part influenced by former wife Marjorie Barretto.
Barretto did not attend the hearing and was represented by her legal counsel. (MNS)
