MANILA – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a four-year-old daughter of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in a car-ramming incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Sunday morning.
In a statement on Monday, the DMW said that as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the agency has commenced providing assistance and support to the grieving family in coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC).
“The department also stands ready to assist the OFW in terms of explaining his absence from work to his current overseas employer,” the statement reads.
“Finally, and just as important, the department joins the bereaved OFW and his family in their strong plea to have the perpetrator of this tragedy brought to justice.”
The DMW also asked for prayers for the fast recovery of four others who were also hit in the incident, including the wife of the OFW.
Meanwhile, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration also assured readiness to assist the bereaved family.
“OWWA assures the public of its commitment to safeguard the welfare of OFWs and their families, especially in times of emergencies,” OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio said.
Police said a black SUV plowed through a crowd near the departure area of NAIA Terminal 1 at around 8 a.m. Sunday. Its driver is now under police custody facing multiple charges.
The incident also claimed the life of a 28-year-old man. (PNA)
