MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday warned residents in Negros Island near the Kanlaon Volcano against the adverse effects of ashfall on their health.

It defined volcanic ash as fine and “very small” particles that could enter the lungs.

“May ilang barangay na malapit sa Kanlaon na apektado na ng ashfall ayon sa (There are communities near Kanlaon affected by ashfall according to the) DOST-Phivolcs (Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology),” it said in an advisory.

People living in these areas are advised to wear N95 face masks, safety goggles, and long sleeves and pants to protect their noses, eyes, and skin.

They are also advised to contact the DOH if they need immediate medical attention.

“Nakaantabay ang aming emergency team sa inyong mga pangangailangan (Our emergency team is on standby for their healthcare needs),” the DOH said. (PNA)
