MANILA – Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday said the crackdown against rogue drivers and public utility vehicle (PUV) operators will continue.

Violators will be meted out swift suspensions, Dizon assured.

In a statement on Monday, he said two show cause orders (SCO) were recently issued to owners of vehicles involved in road crash in Quezon and Cavite provinces.

“This swift action follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directives to ensure enhanced road safety measures for motorists and passengers,” he said.

He said the licenses of rouge drivers and PUV operators will be automatically suspended pending an investigation.

On May 16, the LTO summoned and suspended the license of the driver and registered owner of a sedan involved in multiple crashes in Noveleta, Cavite.

An initial investigation found that the vehicle was heading towards Cavite City when it suddenly accelerated and collided with a vehicle at the opposite direction.

The female driver then put the vehicle in reverse, hit pedestrians and a light post, before turning toward Noveleta proper, where she crashed into a parked tricycle and subsequently lost consciousness.

On May 12, the LTO also summoned and suspended the license of a truck driver involved in a crash in Quezon province.

The LTO’s initial investigation found that the truck was headed to Plaridel town from Atimonan when the brakes malfunctioned while traveling downhill, until it overturned and veered off the roadside. (PNA)
