ILOILO CITY – A young motorist, for the second time, in hot water anew for reckless driving violation and for publicly mocking the regulatory enforcement of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) through social media.
In a report on Tuesday, the LTO-6 (Western Visayas) said the 20-year-old motorist was issued a show cause order (SCO) after its Intelligence and Investigation Unit received a verified report along with a video posted online showing a Toyota Vios driven recklessly along Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Avenue in this city’s Mandurriao district recently.
The driver captioned his post “violation, barya lang (it’s just loose change),” referring to his earlier penalties.
“According to the SCO, the combination of reckless driving and publicly mocking regulatory enforcement demonstrates disregard for traffic laws and undermines respect for public safety regulations,” the report said.
The motorist was given five working days to explain why administrative sanctions should not be imposed for the violation.
LTO-6 Director Gaudioso Geduspan II strongly condemned the acts of mocking the law enforcement efforts of the regional office.
“Such behavior has no place in a society governed by the rule of law. We will determine whether this motorist is even a proper person to operate a motor vehicle,” he said in a statement.
Sometime in January this year, a video also circulated online showing a Chevrolet Trailblazer speeding along Diversion Road in Mandurriao, which prompted LTO-6 to issue the SCO against the registered owner.
The owner, in a written explanation, claimed he was not the one driving the vehicle but his son. It was also found that the vehicle has an expired registration.
The LTO-6 Intelligence and Investigation Office ordered the driver to pay PHP2,010 for reckless driving and PHP10,000 for operating an unregistered vehicle.
The same driver, accompanied by his mother, paid the fines on Monday, where he was again slapped with another SCO. (PNA)
