MANILA, Sept 8 (Mabuhay) – A member of the Liberal Party wants Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to be appointed the next Secretary of Interior and Local Government following his announcement that he will not run for President in next year’s elections.

Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo told a press conference at the Lower House that the the Liberal Party should take advantage of Duterte’s announcement.

“LP should capitalize. My suggestion to LP hierarchy is to appoint him as DILG Secretary or traffic czar. Take advantage of his talent, popularity,” he said.

Castelo added Duterte’s talent will be put to good use as Secretary of the Interior and Local Government or point guard for traffic congestion.

Duterte’s tough stance on crime and discipline has won accolades for him, making Davao City one of the safest cities in the Philippines.

On Monday Duterte announced he has no plans to run for president in 2016. In 2002 then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo also announced that she would not run for president in the 2004 elections. Arroyo, however, changed her mind and ran just the same. (MNS)
